Could bitcoin mining power a renewable energy Renaissance?

On this week's episode of the Futurati Podcast we're talking about an exciting idea in the field of renewable energy.

45% of the sun's energy hits the oceans, where there's nothing we can do to harvest it.

But that's not because there isn't a good engineering solution for using it. Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) is a way of using the temperature difference between the water on the surface and the water further down to generate power.

Despite being a hundred years old, however, no one has ever succeeded at scaling OTEC.

Until now. Oceanographer and bitcoin maximalist Nathaniel Harmon believes that bitcoin mining might be the key to finally make OTEC profitable enough to be a real power source.

In 2021, Nathaniel combined his formal education with his passion for bitcoin by founding OceanBit Energy.

The goal of OceanBits is to use Bitcoin mining to solve the economies of scale problem that has plagued Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion for over 100 years, (hopefully) paving the way to a cleaner, more prosperous world.
